How To Choose a Debt Management Company
and Not Get Burned In The Process (Part 2)

This is (Part 2) of How To Choose a Debt Management Company and Not Get Burned In The Process. This issue is so serious that I decided to provide you with a series of tests to help you determine if the company you are considering is legitimate or not. I’m sure you can agree, your financial future is at stake, and you have no money or time to get burned. Our mission is to help you get back on track as fast as possible. Having shared that, make sure that you put any company you are considering through each one of these debt management tests. This will insure that you are dealing with a winner…

Debt Management Test #5
Do They Have National Accreditation?
A good debt management company will be a member of at least one of these organizations: The American Association of Debt Management Organizations (AAMDO) or the National Association of Certified Credit Counselors (NACCC). If not, we encourage you not to use them, period and point blank! While being a member of a specific national or state accreditation does not guarantee success, it is a step that shows they are engaged in promoting high standards and ethical practices in the consumer debt industry.

Debt Management Test #6
Are The Debt Counselors or Credit Counselors Certified and Trained?
This test is pretty cut and dry. If the person purporting to be a debt counselor or credit counselor IS NOT certified, don’t use them! This is akin to having surgery performed by a surgeon and he or she is not licensed. You should never allow a person who is not certified as a debt counselor or credit counselor, provide any debt management solutions for you.

Debt Management Test #7
Are They Licensed To Business In You State?
Some states require companies to be licensed in order to provide debt management programs to consumers. Don’t confuse this license with a business license; they should have both! Check with your state licensing department to find out if they have such a requirement. If so, make sure the company you’re considering meets your states requirements. Duly note that not all states require a license.

Debt Management Test #8
Are Their Fees Outrageous?
This is a real definitive indicator that you are dealing with a shady debt management company. First and foremost, watch out for up front fees. NEVER, and I mean NEVER, under ANY circumstances give a company an up front fee to establish an account. Almost all legitimate debt management companies earn their money on the backend. In other words, on the new plan they set up, with every payment you make, they receive a percentage off the top. The companies that charge upfront fees, no matter if it’s: $200.00, $500.00, $1000.00, $2500.00 or more, should be looked upon with intense disdain! How dare they demand these outrageous fees from people who can least afford it? If the company is consumer oriented and legit, they will have no problem waiving their initial enrollment fees if you can't afford them.

There you have it! With this information, choosing a debt management company becomes a simple process. We wish you all of the success in the world and may your tomorrow be better than your today!
